Designed with practicality and family life in mind, this south-facing garden transforms a challenging site of dense clay, builders’ rubble, and extreme summer heat into a beautiful, functional space.

Thoughtful layering of materials creates a sense of space, with Moroccan Zellige tiles adding rustic charm and the brise soleil casting striking cross-hatched shadows in the afternoon while also providing elegant shade and screening the parking area and bi-folding gates. The resin-bound driveway doubles as a netball court, making the garden both functional and fun. Small design details throughout give the garden a unique identity.

Planting

Large amounts of churned subsoil were replaced with quality, peat-free topsoil, allowing for thriving seasonal planting that brings colour, texture, and movement throughout the year. Lilacs, deep purples, pinks, and striking white birch stems are complemented by structured yew balls, creating a garden that comes alive in spring.
